28th AUGUST 1498 - "LA PIETA' VATICANA" MICHELANGELO

It was year 1497 when Michelangelo Buonarroti (he was only 20 years old) was commissioned by the french cardinal JEAN DE BILHERES to build this marvelous marbel sculpture.

Michelangelo went himself to Carrara to take the marbele he used. It takes to him 1 year to finish the opera and he deliverd it on August 28th, 1498. The statue is high 174cm, large 195cm and deep 69cm.

The "Pietà" is conserved in Rome at the Basilica di San Pietro.

Go to the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence to see other masterpieces of the gran maestro Michelangelo. One of his most important works conserved in here is the David.

The Accademia is open from tuesday to sunday from 8.15am to 6.50pm. Until September, 30th, every thursday from 7pm to 10pm there's a free entrance.

SAND CASTLES COMPETITION ON THE 15th OF AUGUST IN FLORENCE

After the big success of the last year......on the south bank of the Lungarno Serristori in front of the Piazza Poggi at the Easy Living beach bar there will be a sand castles competition. It will go on from 3.30 pm until 8.30 pm.

SITTING ON THE STAIRS OF THE DOME........IS FORBIDDEN

Don't sit on the stairs of the Dome - Florence, Italy


Probably you don't know but from 1st of July ther's a regulation in Florence that forbid sitting on the stairs of the Duomo.
A special sourveillance will take place every day from 7am to 6 pm. The service will be performed by the personel of the Opera del Duomo in order to protect, promote and enhance the Dome.
This because in the last years a lot of tourists lay down for sunbathing, drink alcooholics and leave a lot od rubbish when they left.
