  • Medici Chapels Tombs of Florence's great ruling family, designed and carved by Michelangelo. Hours: Tue-Sat Apr-Oct 8.15-16.50, Nov-March 8.15-13.50; also open first, third and fifth Sun and second and fourth Mon of each month.
  • Galileo Science Museum Fascinating old clocks, telescopes, maps, and Galileo's finger. Hours: Mon Wed Thu Fri 9.30-17.00, Tue and Sat 9.30-13.00, closed Sun
  • Pitti Palace Several museums in lavish palace plus sprawling Boboli and Bardini Gardens.   • Brancacci Chapel Works of Masaccio, early Renaissance, master who reinvented perspective. Hours: Mon Wen Thu Fri Sat 10.00-17.00, Sun 13.00-17.00, closed Tue. Reservation required.
  • Medici-Riccardi Palace Lorenzo the Magnificent's home, with fine art, frescoed ceilings, and a lovely Chapel of the Magi. hours: Thu-Tue 9.00-19.00, closed Wed
  • Climbing the Duomo's Dome Grand view into the cathedral, close-up of dome architecture, and, after 463 steps, a glorious Florence vista. Hours: Mon-Fri 8.30-19.00, Stìat 8.30-17.40, closed Sun. Long and slow lines, go early, no reservation accepted.
  • Giotto's Campanile Views similar to Duomo's, 50 fewer steps, and fewer lines. Hours: Daily 8.30-19.30
  • Baptistery Bronze doors fit to be the gates of paradise. Hours: Doors always viewable; interior open Mon-Sat 12.15-19.00 except first Sat of month 8.30-14.00, Sun 8.30-14.00
  • Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) Fortified palace, once the home of the Medici family, wallpapered with history and Renaissance themes. Hours: Fri-Wed 9.00-19.00, Thu 9.00-14.00
  • Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) Famous bridge lined with gold and silver shops. Hours: Bridge always open, shops closed at night.
  • Casa Buonarroti Early, lesser know works by Michelangelo. Hours: Wed-Mon 9.30-14.00, closed Tue
  • Piazzale Michelangelo Hilltop square with stunning view of Old Bridge, Old Palce, river Arno and the Duomo. Hours: Always open
